A Creative Kickoff to Summer Through Art, Color & American-Inspired Design

Summer starts bold at The Art District Academy with one of our most energetic and visually exciting camps of the season β€” Stars & Stripes Week.

Running June 29 – July 3, this patriotic-themed art camp combines structured skill-building with hands-on creativity across drawing, painting, sculpture, printmaking, and digital design.

But this is more than just a themed camp.

It’s a full studio experience designed to help students build artistic confidence while creating exciting red, white, and blue inspired artwork all week long.

🎨 What Students Will Create

Throughout the week, campers rotate through multiple studio disciplines while completing projects inspired by American symbols, fireworks, flags, soldiers, liberty imagery, and bold graphic design.

Projects may include:

  • patriotic watercolor paintings

  • soldier lino-cut printmaking

  • plaster American flag castings

  • custom tote bag or T-shirt printing

  • acrylic canvas painting

  • sketchbook development and design work

Each activity is structured to teach real artistic concepts while still feeling fun and engaging.

✏️ Skill-Based Learning β€” Not Just Crafts

At The Art District Academy, we believe students should leave camp with more than finished projects.

They should leave with stronger artistic ability.

That’s why every activity is designed to reinforce:

  • drawing fundamentals

  • composition

  • shape and form

  • color relationships

  • texture and layering

  • creative confidence

Students work through structured exercises that help them understand how artists actually build artwork step-by-step.

πŸ–¨οΈ A Unique Printmaking Experience

One of the highlights of the week is our printmaking studio experience.

Campers create bold patriotic lino-cut designs inspired by soldiers, stars, eagles, and American symbolism before printing their artwork onto wearable items like tote bags or shirts.

This process introduces students to:

  • simplified design

  • carving techniques

  • positive and negative space

  • ink application

  • handmade print processes

The result is artwork that feels both personal and professional.

πŸ—Ώ Sculpture & Casting Projects

Students also explore sculpture through simple plaster casting projects early in the week.

Using patriotic-inspired forms like flags and symbolic relief designs, campers learn how artists think in three dimensions while creating pieces they later finish and paint during camp.

πŸ’₯ A High-Energy Creative Environment

Stars & Stripes Week is designed to feel energetic, collaborative, and inspiring.

Students move through multiple creative stations, explore different materials, and build confidence through repetition and experimentation in a supportive studio environment.

With small-group instruction and structured sessions, campers receive guidance while still having room for creativity and personal expression.
